A local radio station and dozens of area residents reported on Tuesday, May 6 that a UFO crashed early that morning at approximately 3:00 a.m. in the Laguna Cartagena, Lajas, Puerto Rico. Noti Uno Radio reported the area is badly burned with accounts of dead animals and charred metal being seen by area residents. Residents from that area also reported seeing fire coming from the crash site, but when contacted, the local Fire Department stated they had received no calls that night. Another radio station in Lajas also stated that they too had received many calls from listeners telling them about an UFO in the area. That radio station lost all power between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Witnesses also notified the "Puerto Rican Research Group", a local UFO Organization, reporting they had seen a UFO crash in the area around 3 a.m. According to some reports, Federal Agents have occupied the crash site, preventing further civilian inspection of the situation. However, Puerto Rican ufologist Jorge Martin, editor of "Evidencia Ovni" and "Enigma" magazines, stated it was not a UFO, but rather a meteor that had fallen to earth. He claims the situation is being exploited and sensationalized by hoaxers. Martin contacted CNI News on Tuesday night to explain what had happened. "I have been to the site," he said. "A small meteor fell to earth and set dry grass on fire. It has been very dry here lately, so the grass caught fire easily. But it burned itself out. People did see something fall, and they did see fire, but there was no UFO. "Several people who are known hoaxers are spreading the rumor that this was a UFO. They are causing public alarm. I want to put a stop to this right away," Martin said. He asked that the correct story be circulated on the internet as soon as possible.
