The Mathematics Programme helps to motivate pupils in the subject.
Pupils are given opportunity to participate in various quizzes and external
quizzes. Last year, two pupils brought glory to the school by achieving
the Distinction Award and one pupil the Merit Award in the Singapore Mathematical
Olympiad for Primary Schools. This year a pupil came in tenth in
the whole of Singapore in the Raffles Institution Primary Mathematics World
Contest 1998.
A workshop for teachers on Diagnostics and Remediation in Mathematics proved invaluable. Teachers can now conduct remedial lessons more effectively. More than three thousand dollars spent in acquiring reference materials and manipulative enable teachers to carry out activity-based lessons to bring across concepts. CD-ROM programmes on Maths are now available in the Computer Labs. Teachers are using them to consolidate lessons taught and also for enrichment purposes. In 1997, a total of 159 pupils obtained the Young Mathematician Badge and 88 pupils achieved A* and A in the PSLE. An increase in the number of recipients for Maths Badge and pupils obtaining A* and A in PSLE is expected this year. |
