The English Department
seeks to help pupils in effective communication, critical and creative
thinking an independent learning. It designs
programmes to develop pupils' listening,
reading, speaking and writing
skills. In this age of information
technology, the Department is quick to integrate
IT into the teaching and learning of
English, and is working closely with the IT Department to exploit
the full potential of IT - the technology that
has revolutionized the methodology of
language teaching. Language teachers have begun to use interactive
software programmes of the multimedia variety - programmes
that not only generate excitement and keen interest in the
learners, but also facilitate teaching and promote independent learning.
In the midst of a high-tech learning
environment, the EL Department has, nevertheless, not lost sight of the
old-fashioned, time-tested value of reading, an activity it vigorously
promotes as a prerequisite to the acquisition of language skills. |
